Dog Parks

Dog Parks have emerged in the last decade or so as places for pet owners living in suburban and urban areas to exercise their dogs. These parks provide a place where dogs can run freely off-leash and socialize with other dogs. Although they're not for everyone, dog parks can benefit both people and their pets. Dog parks are a place where both dogs and human can come together to interact as one community with other people. Social interaction at dog parks can build communities closer together and tasks can be complete more easily, and faster. These parks promote physical health and socialization for both dogs and humans. They also encourage people to exercise and stimulate social interaction with other people. Dog parks build a community of people committed to parks, community involvement and the environment. People at these dog parks will contribute to sustainable movements more easily. There are some dog parks in the country that are using the wastes from dog parks for electricity in lighting the street lights in the park and all over. Dog parks are growing throughout the country, and are very beneficial for creating a sustainable planet.

Community Gardens

Over the past few years, community gardens have began to increase all around local cities, and towns for all of the community. Community Gardens have been a vehicle for bringing people together as a functioning community and has helped us move toward a more sustainable community. These gardens have multiple benefits that have only had a positive impact on our society. The community gardens have increased a sense of community ownership and stewardship that only brings everyone closer together. This brings people with a variety of backgrounds together as one, and they can contribute to the sustainable movements that begin to increase around the city. These gardens can teach kids where the food comes from, basic business principles, the importance of community and stewardship, and issues of environmental sustainability. Families that interact with community gardens have been known to have healthier diets than non-gardening families. These gardens can improve our environment by decreasing the amount of transportation and labor it takes for food to get to the store for us to buy. This will reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions in our atmosphere. These gardens add beauty to the community and heighten peoples awareness and appreciation for living things. Community gardens have had a significant impact on the environment, and our society. These gardens can be the beginning of a sustainable movement that create a positive future ahead.

Global Climate Blog

The Medieval Warm Period was a time of warm climate in the North Atlantic Region and other regions around the world from about 950 to 1250 AD. During this period, colonization took over and people started spreading into the greenland parts of North America. These people began to produce larges amounts of farm land and livestock. The farming outbreak spread throughout the country during this warmer period. The Medieval Warm Period was followed by a cooler period called the Little Ice Age. The little ice age occurred 1550 and 1850 AD. This caused many parts of the environments to die. The farming and livestock were greatly impacted and caused them both to slow down tremendously.

Banning-Airport Riverside

The Banning Airport is located in California, right outside of Palm Springs. The Pollution comes from all of the planes coming in and out of the airport, along with all of the busses and car that go to the airport. This is a very large airport and is heavily populated throughout the year. The planes let out large amounts of Carbon Dioxide into the air when they take off. The Banning airport can get very humid which doesn't help with the pollution in the air at all. Airports are some of the largest sources of air pollution in the United States. The Airport runway congestion contributes significantly to local pollution levels and contemporaneous health of residents living nearby and downwind from airports. The Banning Airport air quality is awful and needs to be resolved.

Three Gorges Dam

  1. In 2012, the Three Gorges Dam in China took over the #1 spot of the largest hydroelectric dam in electricity production, replacing the ItaipĂș hydroelectric power plant in Brazil and Paraguay. The Three Gorges Dam has a generating capacity of 22,500 megawatts compared to 14,000 MW for the Itaipu Dam. Even though the dam produces a lot electricity, the dam is hurting the environment as well. The environmental impacts of the project are profound, and are likely to get worse as the time goes on. The submergence of hundreds of factories, mines, and wastes dumps, and the presence of massive industrial centers upstream are creating a festering bog of effluent, silt, industrial pollutants and rubbish in the reservior. Erosion of the reservoir and downstream riverbanks is causing landslides, and threatening one of the worlds biggest fisheries in the East China Sea. While Three Gorges is the worlds biggest hydro project, the problems at Three Gorges are not unique. Around the world, large dams are causing social and environmental devastation while better alternatives are being ignored.
